ABRSM - Building to a Crescendo

The Associated Board of the Royal Schools of Music (ABRSM) are the world’s leading specialists in music assessment, and have “provided music teachers and their students with exams and assessments that nurture and evaluate an individual’s performance and progress” since 1889. Under the Bridge Music Studio provide many ABRSM students with Instrument lessons, Rehearsal Space, and some of these young musicians began their musical journeys in our Baby & Toddler Music Class.

As a body internationally recognised for providing a consistent and rigorous series of examinations, they aim “to motivate students of all levels and ages, giving them a series of realistic goals and tangible rewards for their achievements” and cover all levels of skill from beginner upwards.

Jackie Chase is their Honorary Local Representative in Brighton, and is available to answer any queries you may have, whether you are a parent, a student, a teacher or simply interested in getting some more information. She can answer all local-level questions, and would be more than happy put you in touch with the correct contact at the ABRSM for more specialised or national level enquiries.

There are three periods of ABRSM exams each year: in Spring, Summer and Winter (exact dates can be found on the website here) and are at present mainly held at Under the Bridge Studios, with experienced ABRSM examiners. The exam facilities include a comfortable waiting room with refreshments, lots of ABRSM literature to browse and some books and toys for the little ones. We offer three warm up rooms with pianos, and the examination room itself, which is light, warm and welcoming for the young people trying to push themselves to the next level. There are three free parking places outside, and the train station and car park just round the corner.

The ABRSM website is an excellent resource for teachers, students and parents and contains a wealth of information including the exam dates, syllabuses, resources and guidelines for teachers and much more.

Jackie can be contacted on 07719029488 throughout the week and she ishappy to help in any way she can.
